Paradise Glen loop

August 25, 2011: Paradise Glen is my name for this lovely spot, but now I suspect the real name is Sergeant’s falls. Click the picture, just look at this place! I got the name “Sergeant’s Falls” from Catherine Kielb’s 2008 stream gradient study – it may be because the shape of the falls is a chevron, like Sergeant’s stripes? With an unmarked trail and two stream crossings, you can make a loop of it, 1.25 miles.
***Coplon Road trailhead, take the red trail east along the south rim till you get to a little steel and wood footbridge. Ten steps past the bridge take the yellow trail that goes off to the left, the scenic loop trail. Pretty soon the trail turns to the right and you see a steep unmarked trail going into the gorge.
***Follow that down to Paradise Glen, take a dip, snooze, commune with the forest spirits, have lunch, then take the little ridgewalk up the other side to the red trail. Turn left on the red trail and bear left at the Y in the trails and proceed down to the creek. Take a right to the stone wall crossing and back up to Coplon Road. The trail gets a little sketchy down by the creek where the telephone lines go over, but have faith, keep going and it will reappear. (note: this path was washed out by the storm, there’s a detour, or you can bushwhack, check the updated map) —Ed Atkeson
